INTRO TO POTTERY: THROWING FOR BEGINNERS
Ages 18+ / Beginners / Nichole Hess

Develop skill, dexterity, and coordination using the potter’s wheel as a tool of
the ceramic-forming process. Students are introduced to hand-building and
throwing techniques. Aesthetics are developed in a contemporary, social, and
historical context while also exploring the fundamental process of firing and
glazing. Tuition includes clay and glaze. Reasonable firing fees are charged,
based on volume of work produced.

An 8-peice clay tool set should be purchased before or during the first class.  These are available from the School of Art reception desk and the PrattMWP Campus Store for $25.

Location: Ceramics Studio, Enter from State Street.

OPEN STUDIO: Ceramic and pottery students may take advantage of Open Studio Hours in the Ceramic Studio on Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. These hours are only available for the duration of the course.

FIRING TICKETS: When students are ready to fire, finished pieces are measured by volume and students are able to purchase firing tickets for $1.50 each at the School of Art reception desk.

THE POTTERY STUDIO encompasses 3,500 square feet of the historic Ceramics and Sculpture Studio Building. Equipment includes a dozen electric wheels, a slab roller, extruder, mixers, electric kilns, and a Bailey Car kiln. The anagama and salt kiln shed is the hub for workshops and for learning the fundamentals of wood firing. Students utilize the Vincent R. Clemente Ceramic Resource Room.
